Migratory Matters

I am a foreigner and I am doing my migratory proceedings and I need a responsible person. What do I need to do?

At the First Notary Public you can authenticate your responsibility letter, a document in which a Panamanian resident indicates to the migratory authorities that he or she is responsible for your expenses during your stay in Panama while you finish your migratory proceedings. You have to bring a copy of the identification document or passport.

My child, a minor, will travel with either one or both parents. What is process?

You have to follow these steps:

  1. Access the Migration National Service website www.migración.gob.pa
  2. Click on the Request tab and then on the Minors Permission box.
  3. Fill out the document according to the instructions on the Migration National Service online. Then click Confirm and Print.
  4. Attached the required documents on one PDF file.
    1. Panamanian Minor: youth I.D. (front and back) or birth certificate
    1. Resident foreign minor: legalized or stamped birth certificate
    1. Minor’s valid passport
    1. Valid I.D. of the minor’s parents or legal guardian
    1. Valid passport of the person traveling with the minor
    1. If any of the legal guardians or parents is outside of the country, he or she must provide a legalized or stamped authorization
    1. If any of the legal guardians or parents is dead, you have to provide a death certificate
    1. If you serve as a legal guardian according to the legal sentence, provide the authenticated sentence (legalized or stamped if foreign).

*Requirements can change depending on the Migration National Service and must be checked online.

  • Present yourself to the First Notary of the Panama Circuit located on the Low Level of the Mgna Corp. Building, 51st Street, Banking Area. The parent or parents who authorize must sign and stamp their fingerprints with the notary. You have to bring your valid I.D. (passport if foreign), as well as the original documents that were digitalized in the request on the Migration National Service website.
  • At the First Notary of the Panama Circuit, the documents will be collated scanned with the originals your request will be scanned after being approved.
  • You have to carry al the documents when passing through the Migration National Service control post at the airport, border or any departure port (original or authenticated copy).
